The process:
It takes self-awareness and courage to be able to reach out for support.
The unique relationship between therapist and client is the foundation for the therapeutic work. Feeling heard and understood helps us to engage in a process of self-discovery - of making sense of our emotions, our thoughts and our behaviour.
This process helps us identify and re-evaluate our core beliefs, as well as understand the impact those beliefs have on the way we live our life.
Psychotherapy/counselling provides us with the space to reflect on our relationships with others, and supports us in establishing more rewarding ways of relating in the world.
Reasons for starting psychotherapy or counselling:
There are countless reasons for choosing to start psychotherapy or counselling, including:
- emotional distress, anxiety, confusion, depression, loneliness
- relationship difficulties
- bereavement, loss
- past trauma
- self-destructive patterns
- existential and spiritual concerns
- the awareness that life could be more fulfilling
Sessions:
I see clients for either weekly or twice weekly sessions, either long term or time-limited.
Whereas counselling is more solution-focused and typically shorter term, psychotherapy tends to be a longer process offering opportunities to work through complex and life-long difficulties.
My fee for psychotherapy or counselling is £75 per session. I also have a concessionary fee and a fee for students.
An initial session gives us an opportunity to meet and decide whether to work together.
